Decorating Christmas ornaments is fun! This is a simple craft that even young kids can do! You can decorate the ornaments with stamps, just color them with crayons or markers, or even simply cover with glitter! The fun is in the crafting!
For this craft, as pictured here, you'll need:
- Cardboard ornaments (I purchased these at Michael's Craft Store during a sale, priced at 79 cents each)
- Christmas stamps (these are foam cubes, purchased at Michael's for about $1 each)
- Ink pads (I purchased these at Michael's as well, at about $3 each)
Moms: If you have young children who will be doing this craft, you might want to think about covering the table with old newspaper and putting smocks on the kids (one of Dad's old T-shirts works just fine!). Stamping can get a little messy and smeary!
Completely ink the entire surface of the stamp (that is, just the part that will make the picture).
Press the stamp firmly onto the ornament. Don't press too hard or the ink might have a tendency to smear.
It might be a good idea to practice stamping on a piece of blank computer paper or even a paper bag---until you get a feel for just how hard to press on the stamp.
You will need to allow sufficient time for the stamp ink to dry. You might want to test this by stamping a piece of cardboard or brown kraft paper a day or two ahead of time, and then test periodically so that you know how long it takes for the ink to dry.
As you see here, you'll need:
- Paper craft box (I purchased this one at Michael's during a sale, cost: about $1)
- Christmas stamps and colored ink pads
- Tissue paper, ribbon, yarn, or twine'
- Gift tag
- Gift, optional (as shown here, Christmas candle and chocolate candies)
Of course, you can put anything desired in the box. These craft boxes comes in many different sizes and shapes---and make a nice way to keep Christmas mementos, keepsake ornaments, or to use as actual gift boxes.
